Ways to deal with Travel Anxiety during a Pandemic

We are living in some unprecedented times that have changed the course and way we travel in such a way that even when life is "normal" again, travel may never be the same. I know many of you now have heightened anxiety as we are the middle of a pandemic, and  in addition to the regular pre-departure jitters, you now have the added stress of worrying about a deadly disease. Hence, I wanted to provide you with a few tips to cope with your travel anxiety during these difficult times:

1)Prepare, prepare, prepare. Make sure you have done all your research with regards to all the relevant protocols, from the airline you are travelling with, to the protocols required by the country you intend on visiting. Know if you need to quarantine on arrival, if you have to present a negative test, if you will have to take a second test on arrival, all these things are pertinent so as not to cause any delays whilst on your trip. Also, bear in mind that you are travelling in the middle of a global pandemic and be prepared for anything, if perhaps your trip doesn't go as anticipated.

2) Mentally prepare yourself for the trip, these are extremely different circumstances and you will have apprehensions and worries, so I suggest doing things to relax your mind before your travel day. Also, whether it's a good book, your favourite music, a crossword puzzle, take activities with you that will keep you distracted and occupied while you're flying, and make sure to pack these. If the flight you are on offers free in-flight entertainment, take advantage of it. This will help you keep you distracted.

3) Make sure you you are fully stocked with all your sanitizing products, for example, hand sanitizer, wipes, travel size disinfecting sprays; gloves can also be useful. Take everything necessary to give yourself peace of mind. Sanitize the area you are seated and try to make yourself as comfortable as is possible.

4) Another recommendation of mine would be to wear long clothing; keep your body covered as much as you can.

5) Try to boost your your immune system as much as possible before your trip. Also, take all necessary vitamins and supplements with you on your journey, along with any medications you may need.

6) Finally. please take additional funds with you. There are so many stories of people who have ended up in quarantine longer than expected, and thus had to pay more for accommodation, for example. Please make you sure you have some extra money in case of any unforeseen eventualities.

Those are my tips and advice guys. I really hope these help with your travel anxiety, in the event that you have to travel during this pandemic. Don't stop living, stay safe and happy travels!!💙
